Creative Writing 8-9

This intensive three-week creative writing course is an exploration into the craft of writing. Students will read a variety of works by well-known poets and authors, as well as essays on craft, to develop skills needed to form their own personalized writing process. Students will be able to recognize how each creative piece sets its own terms and lives by them. They will practice writing like a reader and reading like a writer. By the end of this course, students will have a portfolio of completed work along with feedback from their professor and peers.

Session One will encourage students to establish their own creative writing practices through reading poems, short stories, memoirs, and personal essays. Session Two will focus on poetry and the art of seeing, and students will develop their own powers of perception to enhance their poetry.
