This course is a broad survey of Greek and Roman culture focusing on the archaeological and art historical methods of understanding the ancient world. The course begins with the ceramics and sculpture of the Greek Geometric period, then on into the Greek Archaic and Classical periods, and then briefly to the sculpture of the post-Alexander world. We then jump forward a few centuries and head to Roman Pompeii.
