Investigations in Bioscience: Understanding Genetics

The field of genetics (the study of genes, genetic variation, and heredity) has rapidly progressed within this last century, effectively changing and shaping our understanding of many different fields. Understanding genetics provides a coherent framework for thinking about many other fields, such as biology, medicine, and evolution. In this course, we will provide an introductory overview of many special topics in this interdisciplinary approach to understanding genetics. Students will be able to answer questions such as: How does genetics play a role in cancer progression? How has the technology to understand genetics changed over time? This course will provide insight into the prevalence of genetics in everyday life, as well as the scientific details that lie beneath it.
