Ethics in Tech

Ethical considerations are a key part of building socially beneficial technology. In Ethics in Tech, we’ll examine issues related to technology, including bias, privacy, regulation, labor movements, and diversity and inclusion. Students will analyze existing technologies and computational systems to consider the impact that technology companies and workers have in building socially beneficial technology. The class will identify and discuss ethical and societal dilemmas in design, construction, and adoption. Through the introduction of human-centered design methods, students will engage in interactive design activities, discussions, and present a final research project.

*The course will meet for two hours daily (Monday–Friday) for a live online class during this window of time. The third hour is used for online office hours. Students will be admitted to and attend just one course section and time. The exact course time and office hour schedule will be set closer to the start of the program. In addition to the live meeting times, students complete out-of-class learning assignments such as assigned readings, group work, pre-recorded online lectures, and more.
