Discover the exciting field of biomedical engineering. This survey course will introduce students to the technology behind some advances in modern medicine. We will uncover the complexities of the body, navigating through innovative implantable devices, from advancements in neural interfaces to groundbreaking artificial limbs. This course also provides students with a historical perspective of the biomedical field and uncovers cutting-edge medical technologies that target diseases and disorders such as epilepsy and heart conditions, leveraging genetic engineering, nanobiotechnology, regenerative medicine, precision diagnostics, and artificial intelligence. Students will design and build a prosthetic arm and present a capstone project that addresses a solution to a current biomedical issue.

*The course will meet for two hours daily (Monday–Friday) for a live online class during this window of time. The third hour is used for online office hours. Students will be admitted to and attend just one course section and time. The exact course time and office hour schedule will be set closer to the start of the program.
