Environmental Solutions

Too often we hear about environmental problems without solutions. It can be overwhelming to consider issues like climate change, urban sprawl, pollution, desertification, and biodiversity loss. These global problems have a greater impact on less affluent communities and can lead to disaster or climate displacement. In this course, students will explore how humans can take action, investigating global solutions (like minimizing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting carbon sequestration); systemic solutions (like sustainable agricultural and green architecture); local solutions (like bioremediation of contaminated soils or restoration of degraded landscapes); and personal solutions too. Students will evaluate solutions through the lens of environmental justice. Team-based projects will involve research and map-making, and individual assignments will help students investigate environmental solutions in their local environments.
