The field of ethnic studies emerged from a student group committed to enacting social change. In this introductory course, students will have the opportunity to cultivate an understanding of the principles, methods, and practices that inform the field of ethnic studies and movements towards justice. Students will be asked to integrate their own knowledge, academic interests, and experiences with scholarly work in ethnic studies to imagine a world rooted in justice, equity, liberation, and belonging. Together, students will draw upon interdisciplinary texts, class discussions, educational videos, multimedia lectures, community-based research methodologies, journal reflections, and creative group projects to grasp college-level approaches to ethnic studies and imagine their own role in enacting social change.
