In an age of fake news and misinformation, powerful writing is one of the few tools that cuts through the noise. Students will step into the role of a reporter to learn how stories are discovered, verified, and told with accuracy and impact. The course will include interactive discussions, lectures, and mock interviews where students will explore the core elements of modern journalism, such as news reporting, feature writing, ethics, interviewing, digital storytelling, and research. Through the lens of journalism, students will learn how to research, fact-check and develop powerful interview questions. Students interested in exploring future careers as journalists or honing their writing skills through new and established journalistic techniques will benefit from taking this course. The class will culminate with students producing a researched feature article. By the end of the course, students will gain practical experience applicable to college-level writing, media studies, and communications.
