This course equips students with the skills and insights to prepare them for future college-level art programs and for careers in the arts. Through a combination of artistic development and practical career guidance, students will build cohesive portfolios, write effective artist statements, and explore key aspects of the professional art world including galleries, museums, and various career paths. They will examine funding opportunities, application processes, and strategies for marketing their works of art. Engaging readings, discussions, studio practice, and writing exercises will deepen each student's understanding of the global art community and prepare them to position their work in a broader context. The course culminates in an online exhibition that allows students to showcase their portfolios to family, friends, and a wider audience, leaving them prepared and confident to pursue future degree programs in the arts.
