Discover the exciting field of biomedical engineering. This survey course introduces students to the technology behind groundbreaking advances in modern medicine. Students will develop a historical perspective of the biomedical field. Through the study of innovative implantable devices, from advancements in neural interfaces to groundbreaking artificial limbs, students will examine the complexities of the body. We will also explore cutting-edge medical technologies that target diseases and disorders such as epilepsy and heart conditions by leveraging genetic engineering, nanobiotechnology, regenerative medicine, precision diagnostics, and artificial intelligence. Students will design and build a prosthetic arm and present a capstone project that addresses a solution to a current biomedical issue.

Session One and Two

*The course will meet for two hours daily (Monday–Friday) for a live online class during this window of time. The third hour is used for online office hours. Students will be admitted to and attend just one course section and time. The exact course time and office hour schedule will be set closer to the start of the program.

Asynchronous Homework Time

1-2 HOURS PER DAY

The approximate amount of time participants should plan to spend on assignments and projects outside of live class time.
